In Spokane County: 63% are considered overweight or obese 24% of teens are overweight or obese Less than ½ of residents meet moderate physical activity requirements Heart disease is the 2 nd leading cause of death Lack of physical activity increases your risk of chronic illnesses such as diabetes, stroke, asthma, heart disease, high blood pressure and some cancers Some chronic diseases can be prevented with physical activity!

2 Complete Streets can increase Physical Activity Residents are 65% more likely to walk in neighborhoods with sidewalks Residents in walkable neighborhoods got 35-45 minutes of moderate physical activity per week than those in low-walkable neighborhoods

3 Complete Streets can: Improve air quality. 65% of the 136,000 tons of carbon monoxide per year in Spokane County are from vehicles. 22% of residents report that air pollution is a problem for them Prevent injuries. 9 pedestrian fatalities in Spokane 2009. Many pedestrian/bike collisions go unreported.
