2 What is the Downtown Security Network? DSN is a BIZ-led, Winnipeg Police Service- endorsed safety initiative connecting downtown’s business community and security teams with each other, the police and the BIZ You will know immediately when incidents occur, allowing you to take added precautions to protect your customers, staff and property Issues will also be communicated immediately to police and the broader network, encouraging everyone to be alert

3 Who can Join the DSN? Anyone who has vested interest in the public safety can become a member, including small business or property owners, building managers and residential property management teams. Organizations providing security services in the downtown area (private or public). To join the DSN, contact The DSN Coordinator

4 Downtown Security Network Goal? Work together to create a safe & secure downtown through a joint approach to handle ongoing criminal & livability problems affecting downtown. A team approach using the unique skills & abilities of each member to achieve greater success. Increase safety by creating broader and enhanced partnerships, with excellent communication Take a proactive approach to solving our downtown criminal problems. 50% communication with Neighbors 99.9% communication with Neighborhood

6 1. DSN E-Alert Network DSN members communicating with each other when there are issues your neighbors' need to immediately know and keep a look- out. It is a electronic message sent out to all the members -Self Governed

7 1. DSN E-Alert Network DSN members can email, text message each other or log onto the website, the instant there is an incident, after a police report has been made.

9 City of WPG Crime Stats - Downtown WPS made administrative adjustments to have their CrimeStats reflect the DSN and Downtown BIZ’s zone as downtown boundaries. This helps to paint a more accurate picture for the public/ media when it comes to the issue of downtown safety. Explanation: Downtown has only 11 neighbourhoods, however the CrimeStats reported downtown with a combined 26 neighbourhoods before changes were made.

12 5. Downtown CCTV Database & Contacts for WPS The purpose of cataloging members cameras is to create a database for WPS to have the information on who has cameras, when needed. When a crime is committed, WPS can quickly access the database, find out if there are useful camera locations to help identify the crime and proceed to locating the individual who committed the crime.
