2. WHO WE ARE A group of people just like you! We are passionate about supporting self sustaining communities; Supporting the Matopeni Slum in Nairobi; Raising money through fundraising activities; Using the money to firstly build a Secondary School; Raising further funds to build a Bore and a Medical Centre.

3. MATOPNEI SLUM Living conditions are poor. Residents often live in temporary structures constructed from corrugated iron. Poverty level is 63%, meaning most people are living below poverty line. The community gets little or no government assistance. Average income is less than $1 a day. Educating the children will help to raise this.

4. MATOPENI PRIMARY SCHOOL 430 Students 13 Teachers Subjects - Maths, English, Kiswahili, Science, Social Studies, Religion 22 Children in Rescue Home

6. STUDENT’S ASPIRATIONS STACY MONICA CLASS 5 School teaches us to learn from each other. I would be fetching water and cooking for siblings if I wasn’t at school. I want to be a lawyer when I grow up and fight for the rights of the rich and poor because we are all equal.

7. STUDENT’S ASPIRATIONS JAMLECK WANDIA CLASS 7 Through education we can become anyone we would like to be. I would be hammering stones in a quarry if I wasn’t at school. I would like to learn foreign languages and be a tour guide in Africa.

8. T HE S ECONDARY S CHOOL ! Stephen is the School Headmaster. The plot of land is secured. The foundation has been laid. Money sent in June 2011 to build the walls. Further money will be raised from a Trivia Night, Harbour Cruise and selling chocolates and healthy snack foods !

9. BUILDING THE SECONDARY SCHOOL We have now sent around AUD$8000. This has allowed the local community to continue to source materials to build the school. Stephen plans to open the school in January 2012.
