3. Wind Wind is moving air. Wind moves at different speeds. –Wind can move slowly. –Wind can move very fast. –Wind can blow gently. –Wind can blow in strong gusts.

4. Wind can be described. We describe the wind as calm when there is little to no air movement. A windsock (a tool to measure wind strength and direction) will hang loosely by the pole.

5. Wind can be described. We describe the wind as windy when leaves and twigs move around on the ground, small tree branches move, and a windsock or flag extend out from the pole.

6. Wind can be measured and recorded. Wind speeds are based on the descriptions of winds in a scale called the Beaufort Scale. Wind speed is classified and recorded. Some words to describe wind are: –Calm –Light breeze –Strong breeze –Gale –Storm –Hurricane

8. Wind blows in different directions. Wind can blows in different directions. A weathervane, or windvane, indicates the direction from which the wind is blowing. You can see weathervanes on the tops of houses or buildings.
