 Our project was designed to release a banner through a series of complicated events.  Most parts were found in the shop, but we purchased marbles, a pulley, and ping pong balls while staying under the given budget.

1)Momentum is conserved through the Newton’s Cradle. 2)Disruption of center of mass causes ball to fall into first cup. 3)Torque causes pulley to spin, dropping second ball into funnel. 4)Due to projectile motion, ball is shot out of the tube into the second cup. 5)Torque acted on the rod displays the banner!

 The Newton’s cradle caused us a slight problem:  Insufficient amount of energy conserved.  Most of the problems came in the transition to, and completion of the domino effect:  Could not get dominos to fall in an orderly manner  Last domino did not always trigger the next step  A consistent path of the ball was difficult to achieve  Step was difficult to get to work in sequence.

 Projectile motion also caused us problems such as:  Finding correct angle and height to achieve required trajectory  Aligning the tube to prevent the ball from stopping inside.  Displaying the banner was difficult because:  Cup could displace the banner without interaction.

 Construction of the project took many days of frustrating work to complete.  The lack of materials and tools added to the seemingly endless failure of our device.  It was difficult to design a device that worked both individually and in sequence with other devices.  It was good to see a practical display of the concepts we learned in class!
