Co-Rec Dodge Ball Rules

Managers Responsibilities The managers are responsible for the conduct of his/her team. Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be permitted if the program is going to be for the benefit of all participants. It is very important that the manager controls firstly, him/her, and, in turn, the temper of his/her team. (see sportsmanship agreement) Remind all teammates that a photo I.D. is required for check-in to be eligible to play (Student, DL, CC, etc.) Make sure all roster additions/deletions have been made by the time playoffs start. Also, make sure people are added before noon of the day that you play to be eligible to play that night.

Starting a Match 6 Players. –3 males and 3 females –2 males and 4 females Can start with 4 players, but must be 2 males and 2 females. If starting with 5 players it can only be 3 females and 2 males. NO EXCEPTIONS!!! Any extra player(s) not in the starting 6 of each game may NOT touch, catch, deflect or disturb a ball unless the ball is completely out of play (ex. weight room/track)

Boundaries Boundaries are the basketball out of bounds lines. Active players can leave boundaries to retrieve balls and must immediately return and must be established in bounds to throw a live ball. Active players can be hit and catch a ball while out of the boundaries and normal rules apply. Active players must return back inbounds as soon as they retrieve the ball otherwise a delay of game penalty will be given and that player will be out.

Winning To win the match, win the most games within the 40 minutes. To win a game, team must completely eliminate opposing team. After regulation, if an equal number of players remain on each team, a 3 minute sudden death will be played. Otherwise the team with the most amount of players on the court at the end of regulation will be declared the winner –--Overtime will begin with the same players that started the game. –--First team to eliminate 1 player from the other team will be the winner. –--No timeouts –--NO SUBSTITUTIONS DURING GAMES!!

Extra Rules -Mercy Rule- If a team is winning by 10 games, the team up will be awarded the win -Players may not hold the ball for more than 15 seconds or they will be out. -The start of the game all players must have their hand on the wall. *When players run to get the balls at the center line they must go BEHIND the attack line (10 ft. line on volleyball court) before they can throw it.)

Extra Rules Continued A player may run and jump over the center line but they must release the ball before landing for it to be considered a live ball and the player that jumped will be considered out no matter what. If any player touches/crosses the center line at any point during a game that player is out, including during the initial start of each game.

An “OUT” is obtained by: a. Hitting an opposing player with a live thrown ball BELOW SHOULDERS (if a player ducks and gets hit above the shoulders, it is considered a legal throw and the player is out). b. Catching a live ball thrown by your opponent c. Causing an opponent to drop a held ball as a result of contact from a live ball (usually when a player is trying to block a thrown ball). d. Definition of a Live Ball: a thrown ball that strikes or is caught by an opposing player before contacting the ground or a ball held by another player. e. A deflected ball can still be caught as long as it has not contacted the ground. f. If a player is deemed to be not actively making an attempt to engage an opponent (hiding to protect players) the player shall be declared out. g. If a ball strikes more than one player before touching the ground or a held ball, all struck players are eliminated and must go out. -- A player may block a thrown ball with a ball being held, provided the held ball is not dropped as a result of the contact of the thrown ball.

After a player gets out… There will NOT be a jail this year we will be playing good ol’ fashion dodge ball! After a player is deemed out they need to proceed to the sidelines and start a single file line beside the respected IM supervisor. To re-enter the game an active player must catch a “live” ball and the first person in the line will be allowed to re-enter. The opposing thrower will then be out!

Active out players… Need to stand and remain in an orderly line beside each supervisor. There is no cutting or switching spots in line and if this happens that team will automatically lose the current game. Players standing in line are allowed to roll balls towards their teammates but are not allowed to stop and/or hold a ball for their team.

Dead Ball and Active Player Specifications A ball is deemed dead if the ball is thrown and strikes the following; curtain, walking track, basketball poles, ceiling, lights, vents, walls, stairs, spectators, supervisors, non- active players and floor. Any player that is currently active can retrieve a ball from outside of the boundaries but are still eligible to be hit with a live ball and then will be considered out unless another active player catches the ball. If a deflected ball (either hitting an active person or off a block) is caught, the person who threw the ball is out. If the person who attempts to deflect the ball with their ball and drops their ball that player is out.

Making a basket… An active player may attempt to make a basket on the opposite hoop. If the basket is made the entire team may re-enter the game upon the supervisors approval. A ball is “live” if it is thrown and hits the rim, backboard or net of the baskets left down. The opposing team may catch the ball and the thrower will be out.

Questions? If you can dodge a wrench you can dodge a ball!!!
