1 THE FIL-AM CONNECTION A Quarterly Newsletter Published by the Filipino-American Cultural Association of North San Diego County P.O. Box 6276 Oceanside, California 92052-6276 www:filamsandiegonorthcounty.com Volume 1, Third Quarter 2011 Felix Saguing, Editor Mark A. Jones, Assistant Editor A Double Whammy for Mother’s Day The “Mother’s Day Delight” was an evening that was enjoyed by all who attended, not only for the food, shows, contest, music and dancing, but also for the extra entertainment that took place just outside the main hall. By the middle of the event some of the guests have started to spill out to the lobby and soon only a few remained inside. The cause of the distraction was the second “whammy”, the Pacquio and Mosely fight provided courtesy of Hank and Belle Limoge. Fil-Am Dancers Consisting of volunteers, the Fil-Am Dance Group are kept busy with by performing in association events and several requests for their appearance within and the surrounding communities, there is even a request from as far away as Dubai! Their most recent appearances were during the Bonsall West Elementary School Multi-cultural Event on on June 3 and at Camp Pendleton’s Multi-cultural Day on June 27. FIL-AM 2011 3rd QUARTER EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES MOTHER’S DAY DELIGHT – MAY 7 (SATURDAY) 5:00 – 11:00 Location: Abby Reinke Community Center Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, CA 92055 10 th ANNUAL FILIPINO CULTURAL DAY – JUNE 11 (SATURDAY) 10 AM – 4:00 PM Location: Oceanside Civic Center Library and Plaza 330 North Coast Highway, Oceanside, CA 92054 Fil-Am Dance Group at Camp Pendleton Children Section at Bonsall West Elementary School Third Quarter A Busy One The bevy of activities may very well make the third quarter of 2011 a busy one for the association. There was the Mother’s Day event; several invitations for the dance group to perform; the June 11th Fil-Am Cultural Day, the “biggie”; the Freedom Day Parade and the annual picnic to cap it off. None of these would have been possible without the energetic work of Mrs. Mely Sivage and Vice President Cita Lime, and the hard work of the different committees and its members, who are tasked with organizing to ensure that “all the t s are crossed and all the i s had a dot over them.” A job well done to all – “you can hang a star on this one.” Oceanside’s Fil-Am Cultural Day At precisely on the hour, Master of Ceremony Ted Lintan took the stage to kick off the tenth Fil-Am Cultural Day commemorating a decade of the association’s partnership with the city’s public library in presenting the well- attended event. Of the multitude of those who were present, no one walked away that day without the feeling of satisfaction. June 12th participants and crowd
