 D-Define  M- Measure  A-Analyze  I-Improve  C-Control

 Step #1 - Identify the product you create or the service you provide  In other words... WHAT DO YOU DO?  Step #2 - Identify the Customer(s) for your product or service, and determine what they consider important i.e. Customer RequirementsCustomer Requirements  In other words... WHO USES YOUR PRODUCT AND SERVICES?  Step #3 - Identify your needs (to provide product/service so that it satisfies the Customer)  In other words... WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO YOUR WORK?  Step #4 - Define the process for doing your work  In other words... HOW DO YOU DO YOUR WORK?  Step #5 - Mistake-proof the process and eliminate wasted efforts using...  In other words... HOW CAN YOU DO YOUR WORK BETTER?  Step #6 - Ensure continuous improvement by measuring, analyzing and controlling the improved process using DMAIC - (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Contro/) DMAIC - (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Contro/)  In other words... HOW PERFECTLY ARE YOU DOING YOUR CUSTOMER-FOCUSED WORK?  Step 7: Ensure continuous improvement by measuring, analyzing and controlling the improved process from Step #5 http://www.sixsigmaspc.com/six-sigma/sixsigma.html

 One potential issue of a campus that could be tackled using this method is a campus’ net. By applying the DMAIC process, the defined problem would be a net that runs sluggishly at times, whether often or uncommon. The measures to be taken include collecting data as to why the net runs poorly, when it’s slow, and to see if and how many complaints are being made about it, if any. The analyze phase occurs by analyzing the data measured, and settling on why exactly the net cannot run at full capacity. The issue and primary cause should be identified here, whether it has to do with the computers or one of several other causes. Improvement can be made through the identification of ideas to solve these solutions, repairing or enhancing current devices may be one such area that requires improvement. Control, the last phase, takes place over the course of the entire process, simply by observing the status of the net and ensuring that it only improves.

 Define: Amount of product out of spec and being automatically removed is high. No recycle or salvage value.  Measure: Quantified the amount of out of spec product for each product level.  Analyze: Identified the variables that impact the production of out of spec materials. Ranges for the levels and frequencies for the variables were determined. Designed Experiments were run and acceptable levels and frequencies determined.  Improve: Levels for the variables and frequencies for department preventive actions established. Possibly can be dropped by 50%.  Control: Operating procedures were modified, schedules for department corrective actions instituted, and control charts for the amount of out spec material are being kept.

 Define: Main problem is most of the students are not aware of what is going on in the club. So we should define what things are to be included in the website and what users want to know like timely notifications of events going on, person involve in certain task.  Measure: Conduct survey on how much they are satisfied and compare with the data collected before applying six sigma principles. Make a frequent interaction with the frequent user of the site so we can know what changes are to be made.  Analyze: Prioritize development and design tasks, and implement changes that are to be made in the sites.  Improve: Enhancing the look and feel of the website, effectively customize the website for the users. Implementation of Web 2.0 features which allow users to interact between them.  Control: Continuously monitor the website; see how frequently website is being view so that you will be aware how much student are taking benefits from the website. how many new members increased after launching

 Six Sigma Project that can be implemented on campus: Going green(Minimizing the print jobs).  Going green -> Using resources efficiently and effectively with minimal or no effect in environment.  For every ton of paper that is recycled, the following is saved: 7,000 gallons of water; 380 gallons of oil; and enough electricity to power an average house for six months.  Going green project would be a six sigma project because it not only saves money but also saves the environment.  Define: Every year large amount of money is spent on ink, printing papers. Minimizing the printing jobs.  Measure: Any expenses, on print jobs, above allowed is defect.  Analyze: Collect paper, ink usage rate. Track printing job expenses on timely basis.  Improve: Replacing the use of hard copies with soft copies. Minimize the cost on print job expenses.  Controlling: All related entities are made aware and motivated to go green.

Thank you!!
