3 The Five Themes of Geography  The Five Themes help everyone to understand the world we live in.  How??  What could these Themes possibly mean…

4 The Five Themes of Geography  First lest go over who a Geographer is…  Geographer – Someone who studies the earth and its various cultures.  (Painting by Jan Vermeer entitled “Geographer” .

5 The Five Themes of Geography  Geographers use the Five Themes or ideas in order to study the world…  Who thinks they can name the Five Themes of Geography…

6 Location  Theme # 1 – Location  Location – This is where something is located at specifically.  Where is North Plainfield located?? .

7 Location  Where is the Grand Canyon located?  Specifically its located in state of Arizona…

8 Location  Mount Rainier is Located in Washington State in The United States

9 Location  There are Two Types of Location.  1) Absolute Location 2) Relative Location

10 Location  Absolute Location – A specific area and great description of an area.  Example – Where are you right now exactly?

11 Location  North Plainfield Middle School, North Plainfield, NJ, 07069, Room 113

12 Location  Relative Location – A general area and description of where a place is located.  Example – What town and state are you guys currently located in?

13 Location  North Plainfield…in New Jersey…kind of in the middle…on the east coast of the United States

14 LOCATION Challenge  What building is this??  Where is it located?

15 LOCATION Challenge  Absolute Location: It s located on the western side of the city of Rome on the IV Templum Pacis road.  Relative Location: The relative location of the Coliseum is Rome, Italy.

16 Place  Theme # 2 – Place  Place – Describes the physical and man made features that make an area unique. (Paris is know for its food and museums)
