To power up the unit depress theTo power up the unit depress the Power button. The initial screen display is illustrated in Picture 1. The first line “Acquiring EPE” tells the user that the GPS is acquiring the satellite signals. This page should be checked periodically prior to marking positions to ensure good satellite coverage. To do this use the PAGE button to scroll through the various views. Picture 1a

The waypoint number assigned for this position is given on this page. At the bottom of the page are the questions of “AVERAGE?” or “SAVE?”. We want to average many readings to obtain our global position. To obtain this average the user will useTo obtain this average the user will use the rocker button to highlight “AVERAGE” and then press the ENTER button. See Picture 5. Picture 4 AVERAGE?SAVE? The waypoint number and the serial number of the GPS unit should be recorded on the data sheet.
