Bell Ringer9/15/14 Today is International Dot Day. Using the handout (Found on Mrs Brown’s desk), create as many pictures as you can with the dots provided. Tape the handout into your sketchbook.

Bell Ringer9/17/14 What is Linear Perspective? Draw a picture that has linear perspective.

Bell Ringer9/18/14 What is One-Point Perspective? What 3 types of lines are used in One-Point perspective?

Bell Ringer9/19/14 What is Two-Point Perspective? You will need a ruler today.

Bell Ringer9/22/14 How many Vanishing Points are seen in Two-Point perspective? What are the different types of line seen in Two-Point perspective? Mrs. Brown has lost her voice. Please be respectful so that you can hear her. You will need a ruler today.

Bell Ringer9/24/14 What are the major differences between 1-pt. perspective & 2-pt. perspective?

Bell Ringer9/25/14 What is the Horizon Line? (What does it tell you?) *If you missed yesterday – please come see me so that I can catch you up on your project.

Bell Ringer9/26/14 Copy this example of a “Bird’s Eye View.” What type of perspective is used?

Bell Ringer9/29/14 Try drawing your first initial in 2 pt. perspective.

Bell Ringer9/30/14 Label the Vanishing Points & Horizon Line.

Bell Ringer10/1/14 Label the Vanishing Point(s) & Horizon Line.

Bell Ringer10/2/14 What type of perspective is seen in this artwork?

PERSPECTIVE

What is perspective? ( from Latin perspicere, to see through) A graphic system that creates the illusion of depth and volume on a two-dimensional surface. ***(Makes something look 3D on a 2D surface.) The invention of linear perspective is generally attributed to the Florentine architect Brunelleschi, and the ideas continued to be developed and used by Renaissance artists, notably Piero Della Francesca and Andrea Mantegna.

ONE POINT PERSPECTIVE Making Space out of nothing at ALL except straight lines!!!

What is 1 POINT perspective? Used to draw the same objects as one-point perspective, rotated: looking at the corner of a house, looking at two forked roads shrink into the distance or a box from the corner, for example. A drawing which has one Vanishing Point. A drawing using three set of lines : horizontal, vertical and converging (diagonal).

TWO POINT PERSPECTIVE Making Space out of nothing at ALL except straight lines!!!

What is 2 POINT perspective? Used to draw the same objects as one-point perspective, rotated: looking at the corner of a house, looking at two forked roads shrink into the distance or a box from the corner, for example. A drawing which has two Vanishing Points. A drawing using two set of lines : vertical and converging (diagonal) only, … there are NO HORIZONTAL lines besides the Horizon Line.

VERTICALVERTICAL CONVERGING NO HORIZONTAL LINES!!!!!

Why Two-point perspective? To create SPACE on a flat media like paper. To create FORMS from straight lines. To understand how objects relate to the viewers point of view. To learn the basics for architectural drawings.

Vocabulary Diagonal lines: Lines that slant. Vertical lines: Lines straight up and down, parallel to the side edges of the paper and at a right angle to the horizon. Horizontal line: Lines parallel to the horizon.

Vocabulary Horizon Line: Line parallel to the edge of the paper that marks your line of sight. Vanishing Point: Point on the horizon line where receding parallel lines seem to meet. Converging Lines: Diagonal lines used to show distance and depth by going towards the Vanishing Point.

Assignment Student must draw a street corner with two sides if the streets and buildings on each side. All buildings must have windows, door(s), at least one sign and surface textures. The drawing must also have at least one space between two buildings (ex: alley, street or walkway)
