2 Spellings: Given out Monday to learn for a test the following week. Maths: given out on Thursday to be given in the following Tuesday. Literacy/Research: given out Thursday for the following Tuesday. Reading: Please listen to your child read for 10 minutes every day and record your comments in their Reading Diary.

3 Literacy Fiction – We will be studying lots of Greek myths and legends, starting with the legend of the Trojan Horse. In the following weeks we will read the story of Prometheus and Pandora, which is a story with strong mythological themes and characteristics. Differences between oral and written storytelling will be explored and be used to support the children’s own storytelling and writing. Non fiction- We will analyse, evaluate and write instructions.

6 This half term we will be studying weight/mass and volume as well as learning the properties of equilateral, isosceles, scalene and right-angled triangles. We will sort triangles according to their properties; use scales to weigh amounts to the nearest half interval; convert from grams to kilograms and vice versa, from millilitres to litres and vice versa, and from metres to kilometres and vice versa; read scales to the nearest half division; understand that we measure distance in kilometres and miles; use ready reckoning to give approximate values of miles in kilometres and vice versa and draw line conversion graphs.

7 Science In Science this half term we are starting our new topic, Lets Get Moving. In this topic, children learn about forces and machines. Starting with the force of gravity, they then study friction forces, including air and water resistance, before investigating how simple machines work.

8 History/Geography This term we are studying the Ancient Greeks. We will be discovering the fascinating history of the artists and athletes of this period; learning about the origins of the Olympic games, Greek theatre and architecture. We will also investigate how the geography of Greece affected the lives of the inhabitants.

9 Art/DT This half term we will be studying people in action, looking at the proportions of the human figure, and how artists can depict movement in their pictures and sculptures. To build on our History topic- the Ancient Greeks, we will be making Greek vases illustrating some of the Olympic Greek Athletes and we will also be studying the picture Bacchus and Ariadne by Titian.

10 This half term we will be studying a unit of music relating to the human life cycle. We will study music from composers such as Brahms, Berio, Liszt and Monteverdi. We will focus on the structure of pieces of music and will use tuned and un-tuned instruments to accompany pieces of music. We will learn and perform new songs related to life cycles. We will look at a wide variety of musical moods, styles and genres including classical.

11 PE/Games Gymnastics with Mr Garner Invasion game skills. Focus :Tag Rugby with Mr Mann PSHE/RRS We are going to focus on bullying- what it is; how it feels; why people bully; how we can prevent and respond to it; and how children can use their social, emotional and behavioural skills to tackle this crucial problem.

12 RE This half term we will be looking at the beliefs and practices of Islam. In this unit children will learn: That Muslims believe ‘there is no god but Allah and Muhammad is his messenger’ Some key points about Muhammad’s life. The importance of the Qu’ran to Muslim believers. To identify some key beliefs through Islamic stories. What the 5 pillars are. The design and purpose of a mosque.

13 Computing Topic: We are artists – Fusing geometry and art E-safety: This unit will provide an opportunity to reinforce messages around safe searching and evaluating the quality of online content. The pupils will consider the importance of protecting personal information. Skills: creating, programming, searching the web, problem solving, logical thinking Vocabulary: geometric landscape op art sprite symmetry tessellations The pupils will explore geometric art, taking inspiration from the work of Escher, Riley and traditional Islamic artists. They will become familiar with the tools and techniques of a vector graphics package.

14 This half term in French we will continue to hold short conversations with partners. We will be learning about the types of hobbies people have in France. We will learn new vocabulary relating to hobbies as well as verbs and grammar necessary to say phrases. We will start to look at the features of an old French town and compare it with Burnham. We will continue to listen and respond to traditional and well known French stories.
