4 Morning Routine: When you first arrive in the classroom at 7:40, you should immediately unpack your backpack and move your sticks for lunch count and attendance. Then, you should turn in anything that needs to be turned in into the correct basket. Then, you will walk quietly to your seat and start your morning work. Your morning work will already be at your seat.

5 Turning in Lunch Money, Field Trip Money, Notes from Home, and Homework
If you have lunch money, field trip money, or notes from home they should go in the correctly labeled baskets. Also, you should turn your RED plastic homework folder into the homework basket. The baskets are on a shelf close to the entrance of the classroom. Please, ask your mom, dad, or someone to put your money into a baggie or envelope, labeled with your name. 6 Attendance Attendance will be taken by moving your stick out of the attendance jar and into the jars for lunch. In the mornings all of the sticks will be in the “Attendance Jar”. The sticks will be labeled by your class numbers, so they can be reused. To help you remember your numbers, a chart will be posted on the wall above the jars. The other two jars are for lunch count. The jars will be labeled “Lunch from home” and “Lunchroom”. At 8:00 I will look to see whose sticks have not been moved and know who is here and who is not here to report to the office.

8 Tardiness (Excused/Unexcused)
Tardiness and absences will be handled in the office. After 7:40 you will be classified as tardy. A parent must check you in through the office. My system for you being tardy is that if it is an uh-o woke up late, then morning work will be able to be made up. Remember 3 tardies turns into 1 unexcused absence. However, if being tardy becomes a habit, then morning work will not be able to be made up. If you have time to start your morning work, then when time is up, whatever work you have completed is what you will turn in.

9 Absences (Excused/Unexcused)
My system for absences is, if you were sick and it is excused, all work can be made up. When you bring the doctors note or a parents note, make sure you turn it into the office. If you have a stomach bug, and you do not go to the doctor, please ask a parent to me. If I received an from a parent or a guardian telling me that you will be out, then your work can be made up. However, if time after time you are absent on the day of a quiz or a test, then you have one chance to make it up. The quiz or test will be a different, and a little bit more difficult than the quiz or test that the rest of the class took.

10 Rewards for Attendance
Students with 100% attendance and no tardies for the month will get to pick a prize from the prize catalog. The prize catalog includes: Show N Tell Change seats with a friend for a day Be proud…Read aloud Take the night off from homework Pick a Prize out of the treasure box

11 End of the Day My goal for the end of the day is to be finishing our math lesson at 1:45. This will leave 10 minutes to clean up and pass out homework. At 1:55 you will leave your homework out and I will take y’all to your special. When you get back to the classroom at 2:30, you will have the last 15 minutes to ask questions and start your homework. At 2:40 I will give a 5 minute warning to allow you to get to a stopping point, so that you can color in your “Weekly Behavior Chart” and to finish packing up. The principle, or a student, will come over the intercom system and dismiss you to carpool, walkers, daycare, buses, or extended day.

12 Early Dismissal If the school has to dismiss early, the schedule will continue as normal. However, the schedule will be modified to the dismissal time. Your parents will be contacted through school cast (phone and ). Your parents will have filled out emergency information form at the beginning school year.

13 Homework You will have a RED PLASTIC folder that will be taken home every day. Homework will consist of unfinished work and if an extra practice sheet is in your folder, it is due the next day. The folder will have a weekly newsletter, your individual reading book, your reading log, your spelling words, and different activities to practice your spelling words. These things will be placed in sheet protectors. Your homework will be placed in the front pocket, and important papers and/or notes will be behind your homework.

14 Homework and Missed Work
Each night take 10 minutes and read to someone in your house. You will have spelling words each week and activities to help you practice them. You need to practice them every night to prepare for your spelling test on Friday’s. The spelling test will be taken during the 5th rotation of Daily 5. Missed a day? If you miss a day do not panic. I have a basket, with folders sorted by the days of the week. The work for each day will be placed in the assigned day of the week folder. If you are absent you can easily find what you missed.

15 Birthdays Our birthdays will be marked on our Happy Birthday chart.
On your birthday you will get to wear a birthday crown. If you would like to bring a snack for snack time, your parents should refer to the school hand book to know what is okay to bring.

16 No medicine will given out in the classroom.
All medicine is given by the nurse or someone in the office. If you have to have medication while at school, your parents will need to provide the school with the proper forms and a schedule of when it is needed. I will send a medication and allergy form home with you in your red homework folder. Please ask your parents to fill it out and return it, for me to keep on file. No medicine will given out in the classroom. Medication Procedures

17 Classroom Visitors Room Mothers/Fathers
All classroom visitors must sign in at the office to receive a visitor’s name tag. This name tag must be worn the entire time you are in the school. We love to have visitors during lunch time. However, it would be greatly appreciated if a 24 hour notice was given. No visitors will be allowed during instructional time. I do not want the students learning time to be interrupted. We always love parents to volunteer! If you wish to be a parent volunteer throughout the year, you can fill out the “I’d Love to Help…” form and you will be contacted as needed. Room Mothers/Fathers

18 Classroom Rules Listen while others are talking.
Follow all directions the first time they are given. Keep your hands, feet, and unkind words to yourself. Treat others the way you want to be treated. Always give your best effort. Mrs. Veazey’s classroom is a NO Bully Zone. Bulling will not be tolerated in this classroom.

19 Behavior System Each morning your pins will start on Ready to Learn. Throughout the day you have the opportunity to move up or down on the behavior chart. At the end of the day before you pack up, you will color on your “Weekly Behavior Chart”. Which ever color your pin is on, is the color you will color on your chart for that day. If your pin is below ready to learn I will make a note on your weekly behavior chart so your parents will understand and know why you were on that color. Each of you will also have a sticker chart, and every day they stay on “Ready to Learn” or above you will get a sticker chart and when you fill up a sticker chart you will get to go to the prize catalog. 21 Expectations for Group Work
Before you start group work, I will review all the instructions with you. You will also have an opportunity to ask questions. If you are confused after starting the group work, ask your other group mates to explain it to you. Respect your group mates. Do not be afraid to share your ideas with the group. Keep each other on task. Listen when other group members are speaking. Treat your group work as if you would present it to the class. Always do your best.

Small Groups Each day during the Daily 5, I will call reading groups to the guided reading table. While I am working with a group I will be unavailable. I will have my push light. When the light is on that means “Do Not Disturb”. When I turn it off, that is when you can ask me questions. While my “Do Not Disturb” light is on, you have the option of asking 3 other friends or waiting till the light is off. I would urge you to ask 3 friends first, because I bet they can help. Each group will have 5 people in it. The groups on the table will below will the rotating groups. Then you will have a different group for guided reading. 23 Expectations for Seat Work
Most work will be completed at your desk. While working at your desk, I want you to try your best. I also expect it to be quiet. You may whisper, but if I can hear your voice over all other noises then I will assume you are not getting your work done. Be respectful of how your classmates work. Each of you learn differently. If you have a question raise your hand and I will come to you. If you need to use the bathroom or need to get water, we will cover how to do that in just a few minutes.

24 There are 2 different baskets:
Turning in Work There are 2 different baskets: Unfinished Work Completed Work They will be in hanging folders, like our missed work basket. The folders will be divided by your class number. Unfinished Work Complete Work

25 Finished Early? If you finish your work early, finish any work you have not finished. When you feel your work is complete bring it to me to check over. After I have checked your work, you may pick a center. However, if you become a distraction to your classmates, then you lose the option of picking a center.

26 Centers or Rotations We have a total of 5 centers. But each day we will do 4 of them. The centers include: Read with the Teacher Read to Self Read to a Friend Lay on the Floor and Read Word Work

27 Use of Classroom Materials
Treat EVERYTHING as if it is your own. If you would not do it to yours, then do not do it to the classrooms. When you are finished put whatever you were using back where you got it from. After returning the material, make sure it looks neat before you return to your seat.

28 Borrowing Classroom Materials
When you need to borrow a material: 1st – Ask to borrow the material. 2nd – Wait for an answer 3rd – Find the Borrowing Log 4th – Fill in the log correctly. Name, Date, and a Description of the item (Book, magazine, etc.). 5th – When you are done with the item, make sure and initial the log letting me know that you returned the item.

29 Grades My grades will come from quizzes, tests, homework, in class assignments, projects, and class participation. Your morning work is not for a grade, but is included in your class participation grade. Completing your morning work, participate in class discussions, and complete any other work will help your participation grade. Every Friday, you will take your work home and let your parents look over it. If your parents have questions, they can fill out the “Look at what your child has done this week..” form. It will be attached to the front of the packet. If there are no questions then your parents can sign the form and return it.
