An attempt by DPW Supervisors to Create an Evaluation Document that reflects the real Issues of BD&C Activities

Based on DAS Format, with direct application to essential issues Defined goals established by DPW staff at Boating Center back in 1995 when we went to the project delivery model performance The guidelines provide BD&C supervisors a common criteria for evaluating all technical staff Performance

Knowledge of Work This item concentrates on the responsibility of how well the individual has knowledge of means and methods of their duties. DPW Policy and Procedures and special subject matter expertise. Knowledge of other construction industry norms established by other members of the industry. Core technical Concepts Policy and Procedures Subject matter Expertise

7 DPW/BD&C Goals & Objectives Guidelines
Quantity of Work This element measures how well the individual works within the schedule of work needed as assigned by the supervisor. A clear indication on how well the individual is adhering to the assigned quantity is how well they are getting the required work done in a timely manner, keeping DPW and Agency Management up to date on issues and status. Ability to work within the unit Structure to accomplish goals Keeping Supervisors informed on projects Ability to Schedule within the time given Taking on new Assignments

Quality of Work All assigned work will be summarized, available and comprehensible. It will be maintained and will be evaluated based on how well the individual is adhering to the timelines of the deliverables, the quality of the information, the understanding of the duties and summary of work. Items such as complete and accurate documentation are an indication of the clarity of the understanding of the mission by the individual. Completeness and Accuracy Records Maintenance Proper Planning of Work

Ability to Learn To be able to understand what is needed is another clear example of the individual’s ability to comprehend his/her job. The ability to apply what has been given, adapt to techniques and technology and use of training made available to them.. Comprehension and implementation of new policies and procedures is additionally a clear indicator of this skill. Cooperation Complies with policy and procedures including all reporting. Timely responses to Supervisor, keeps records in order and available, while keeping on top of the projects assigned. Appropriately keeps stakeholders informed on all aspects of the work. Takes on other duties as needed when assigned. Coordinates Work as Appropriate Communicates to Keep Stakeholders Informed Complies with DPW Policies and Procedures Takes on Additional Duties as Assigned

Judgment Logic is incorporated in daily activity including problem solving and issue resolution. Is able to obtain the needed and proper approvals on all items involving their project, ability to evaluate, negotiate issues. Ability to manage resources they are able to find for their project and always applied appropriate communication throughout the life of the project. Is able to solve problems or provides alternative solutions for supervisor to consider. Obtains Proper Approvals Resource Management Negotiation Evaluations of External Resources Communication

Other Elements This section allows an opportunity to demonstrate effective development during the past year in other activities not covered above. Some areas that might be considered are individual’s further interest or development of skills as they pertain to the Construction Industry. Interest or membership in affiliated industry activities. Ability to bring outside skills that the individual has developed to help broaden the knowledge of other DPW staff. Unique interest or hobbies that bring credit to the State and/or DPW.
