1 ‘Twas the nite before STAAR’ We all knew these by heart, Numbers of highlighters, organizers, calculators & charts.

2 Clock on the wall, to mark start time and end, Once it was announced to begin!

3 Daylight appeared bringing to pass, Accommodations, small groups, rest-breaks and scores to surpass!

4 Silence engulfs hallways throughout, “2 hours to go” a voice finally shouts.

5 Tension builds as the minutes accrue, Monitoring non-stop, restful are few.

6 Lo and behold, 240 ticks come to a close, “All pencils down!” booms echoes, all froze.

7 Waiting’s the game from Spring until Fall, STAARs will continue 3 years for all!

10 Basic Transcribing Level 2 Braille – Large Print Fine Motor Skills Physical Disabilities Visual tracking difficulites Emergency (broken arm) Student circles or points, types or writes, dictates or signs answers. This is not for written composition! STAAR Accommodations

11 Complex Transcribing Level 3 ARF Required Student dictates, signs responses to writing prompt. Student dictates, signs mathematical computation for teacher to write on scratch paper. This is for written composition! STAAR Accommodations

12 Extra Time Level 2 Impairment in vision Dyslexia Disability that affects his/her ability to pay attention or focus (not ADHD) Physical disability or medical condition. – Specific examples will be included for last two bullets. STAAR Accommodations

13 Extra Day Level 3 (Requires ARF) Severe impairment (braille) Emotional or behavioral disability – ability to sustain working for a prolonged period of time. Physical or medical condition (not test anxiety) STAAR Accommodations

14 Other Level 3 (Requires an ARF) First step will be to call TEA. Example may be a student who has just become blind and has not had time to learn braille. Supplemental Aids Not everyone gets a supplemental aid! Examples of each are given and will be posted on webpage. STAAR Accommodations

15 Timing Must have responses on answer document before 4 hour limit ends Seating charts have to have documentation of starting time and ending time. Start time begins when students start question # 1. Every room has to have a clock students can see. Orally or in writing on board – remind students of time. – Within last hour multiple reminders are allowed. STAAR

16 Timing Not allowed to stop clock – Water breaks – Restroom breaks – Snack breaks – Short physical or mental break Allowed to stop clock – Supervised lunch – Medical break to nurse (nurse will need a log) – Consolidation of students at end of day each room could have a different starting time, do we want to do this? STAAR

17 Timing Late arriving students – Must have 4 hours to test – Must finish before end of school day Multiple test sessions – Allowed as long as four hour time limits are maintained – Can start before the regular school day and – Can extend beyond the regular scheduled day. STAAR

18 Standards will be set for a three year period. Students will be scored under the standards measure that begin with 9 th grade and follow them thru 10 th and 11 th grade. 10 th grade will be used for AYP this year, does that mean 11 th grade will be used in 2012-2013? ELL participation guidelines should be published soon. Will there be changes? Transition from paper/pencil to on-line administration? Standards???? (Moak, Casey)

19 All presentations from Assessment Conference will be posted to TASA and TEA webpage. Accommodations webpage will be up before beginning of new year, all accommodations will updated. Manuals will be shipped all together this year. Participation counts will be updated in January. Odds and Ends
