10. Emergency Scenarios Scenario #1 You have a concern about one of your students on your program. It is day four of the program and this student (female) has had a couple of panic attacks in the first couple of days. On this day she seems to be agitated and paranoid and is making disparaging comments against the host culture and verbalizes that she feels they are “targeting her and going to harm her”. Her health form indicates that she is on anti-anxiety medication. She is choosing to drink heavily at night and another student has overheard her attempt to buy drugs from a local man in a bazaar.

11. Emergency Scenarios Scenario #2 Your students have a good amount of freedom during non-program/academic hours and often go out at night to clubs in groups. You receive an early morning phone call that one student is hospitalized. He was out late and while returning back to your program’s residence, alone, he was assaulted, stabbed and robbed. He was taken to a local, public hospital. You are in a developing country and communication or accessibility to internet/wifi is not good. He states that he does not want his parents to be contacted.

This occurs at a time when the group is not together and students are out on their own, enjoying some free time. You are ok and in a safe place but are not with the students.
