2  · Activist: an especially active, vigorous advocate of a cause, particularly a political cause.  Advocacy: the act of pleading or arguing in favor of something, such as a cause, idea, or policy.

3 ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE  Environmental Justice: the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of people of all races, cultures, incomes and educational levels with respect to the development and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies

4  Environmental Racism: a situation in which industrial operations, environmental policymaking, and the enforcement (or lack of enforcement) of environmental laws unfairly impact a particular race of people, either intentionally or unintentionally.

5  Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG): natural gas in its liquid form. Natural gas is a fossil fuel made primarily of methane, also mixed with hydrocarbons, water and other compounds, found underground as a clear, odorless, colorless gas. The gas is piped to a factory for liquefaction; this process cools the natural gas below its boiling point, removing most of the compounds.

6  Outreach: the act of extending services, benefits, etc., to a wider section of the population.

7  California Coastal Commission: a state governmental agency that plans and regulates the use of land and water in the coastal zone of California in partnership with coastal cities and counties. The Coastal Commission controls the permitting for development activities along the coast, which can include construction of buildings, divisions of land, and activities that change the intensity of use of land or public access to coastal waters.

8  California State Lands Commission: a state governmental agency with a mission to “serve the people of California by providing stewardship of the lands, waterways, and resources entrusted to its care through economic development, protection, preservation, and restoration.” The Commission often prepares Environmental Impact Reports (EIRs) for land use changes within its jurisdiction, routinely comments on EIRs for projects that affect the State's lands, and reviews permit applications submitted to the California Coastal Commission, the San Francisco Bay Conservation & Development Commission, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

9  Sierra Club: a non-governmental environmental organization with the following mission “To explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the earth; To practice and promote the responsible use of the earth's ecosystems and resources; To educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environment; and to use all lawful means to carry out these objectives

10  Governor: a U.S. State Governor heads the executive branch of government in each state or territory and has considerable control over government budgeting, the power of appointment of  many officials (including many judges), and a considerable role in legislation, including the power to veto state bills.

11  Press: an informal term for the news media. Print journalists and TV news reporters are examples of members of the press.  Press Conference: a meeting to which journalists are invited to hear news about an organization or have an opportunity to interview politicians, celebrities, or other prominent public figures.
