2 A is for Amish In Iowa Amish started in 1632. In 1692 the Amish women wore dresses the boys wore dark suits.

3 B is for Butter Cow The Butter Cow has been in the Iowa State Fair since 1911. The Butter Cow took 600ilbs of butter to build.

4 C is for capital building It’s located in Des Moines Iowa. It was built between 1871 and 1886. They built it with 23 karats for the Gold leaf dome of the capital. Gold Leaf Dome

5 D is for Dodge House In 1869 the Dodge House was built. It cost 35,000 dollars. General Dodge owned the Victorian home.

6 E is for Eagle It is a symbol of power, strength, and thievery. It is only native to North America it’s not found anywhere else.

7 F is for Fairmount Park It was found in 1872. Fairmount Park is made of 63 parks.

8 G is for Gypsum Gypsum crystals can be scratched with a fingernail. The name of gypsum came from the Greek word ‘burned.’

9 H is for Herbert Hoover Born in Iowa August 10 th,1847. He was the 31 st president.

10 I is for Iowa State fair The first Iowa State Fair started October 1854. They have a lot of food that’s fried or on a stick. In 2012 it has become larger and longer.

11 J is for Julian Dubuque He was born in 1762 January 10 th. He led the lead mines. He did a lot of things for his people like getting furniture and dug mines.

12 K is for Kate Shelly Bridge It was built in 1912. The Kate Shelly Bridge was named after Kate Shelly.

13 L is for Lake Okoboji In 1860 they connected the channel together. It’s the one and only glacier made lakes.

14 M is for Mississippi River It travels South 2,530 miles. The Mississippi river was formed by glaciers.

15 N is for Nile Kinnick He was born in 1918 July 9 th and died in 1943 June 2 nd. He was doing a training flight for world war 2 when he died. The University of Iowa was named after him.

16 O is for Oak Tree Iowa designated Oak Tree as the official state tree in 1961. It was chose because of shelter food, nesting, and cover for many animals.

17 P is for Popcorn Ball It was made in April 1995. 35 people made it in10 hours. It took 2,225 pounds of popcorn. It’s located in Sac City.

18 Q is for Quaker Oats It started in Cedar Rapids Iowa in 1873. It’s a cereal in an oatmeal company.

19 R is for Ricky Stanzey He was a quarterback and was ranked 2 nd. He played for the Iowa Hawkeyes.

20 S is for State Flag Iowa did not have a flag until 1917. Dixie Tullis made Iowa’s first flag.

21 T is for Tractor In 1892 the first tractor was made by John Froehlich in Clayton County Iowa. Now we have John Deere tractors in the 1900s they were built in Waterloo Iowa.

22 U is for University of Iowa It was founded in February 25 th, 1847. Worlds first University to have creative projects in theatre.

23 V is for Volleyball The game of volleyball was invented in 1895 by William G. Morgan. The high school state volleyball is held at U.S. cellular in Ceda rapids.

24 W is for Wrestling The Carver Hawkeye Arena has been the home of Iowa since 1983. It is named after Roy J. Carver.

25 X is for X-rays The x-rays were first made in November 8 th 1895. They were created by Wilhelm Conrad Rontgen.

26 Y is for Yellow smoke State Park It was found in Denison Iowa. It was built in Paradise Iowa and then relocated to Crawford County Iowa.

27 Z is for Zoo Blank Park On May 17 th 1963 it became a zoo and they opened it. It was named after Mr.A.H. Blank. Some animals they have are lions, giraffes, koalas, kangaroos, and other animals.
