The first Tank versus Tank battle took place near the village of Cachy on 24th April A German AZV engaged 3 MarkIV's, damaging 2 but was it knocked out.

6 The 1st tank use happened at 15th September 1916, during the battle of the Somme. 18 British Mk.I heavy tanks achieved the 5km breakthrough

On 8th October 1918 four British Mk.IVs met also four German (captured) Mk.IVs. Both sides took losses and retreated. The heavy tank Mark IV pressed into the German service

9 In conclusion During battles tanks would frequently end up in trenches and completely out of service. Tanks were important, however, because they boosted the morale of British troops. The tank made a minor impact in World War One due to the fact that it was under developed and so unreliable. It did however scare the Germans and it scared them to an extent that they lost moral.
