SWBAT Show understanding of the main events in the novel LAWKI by reviewing the last chapters we have read and completing an open book quiz with 80% accuracy.

6  What page did you last read in the novel?  Which question was the hardest to answer on the quiz? Why was it so hard to answer? What could help you to be more successful with this question?

7  Achieve 3000  Students with out computers will be working on print outs of an achieve 3000 article.

8  Choose an image to sit by.  Look at the picture of the damage a tornado caused. Answer the questions on a separate piece of paper.  What damage do you see?  How does this affect their lives?  What are their current unmet needs?  What can you invent or what service could you provide that will help them right now?

10 4.1 Research and Reasoning: Answering a research question logically begins with obtaining and analyzing information from a variety of sources How can you solve the problem of unmet needs of people after a natural disaster with a new product or service? SWBAT Choose a natural disaster and describe the needs humans have based on its destruction. List one or more product or service they can invent to help the victims.

11  Warm-Up and Discuss  Introduce Standard, Objective, and Agenda for the day.  Lesson:  Students choose between earthquake, volcanic eruption, or tsunami (events studied in science).  Find pictures on the web.  List needs humans have following the event.  List products or services they can invent to meet those needs.  This is a one day in class activity. You will save this at the end of the hour.  Continue quiz from yesterday or draw one invention and describe it.

12  Students provide a clear explanation of the damage caused by the disaster, how it affects people right after the disaster, and what they could invent to help the people.

SWBAT Determine how limited resources affect the lives and choices of humans, by writing on an unmet needs sheet during reading today.

18  Warm-Up and Discuss  Introduce Standard, Objective, and Agenda for the day.  Lesson:  Today we will have different things going on in the classroom. You must focus on your own work and be respectful of others.  Finish the quiz over chapters 6-8 from Tuesday.  Complete yesterday’s mini research project if you were not in class.  Read Chapters 9-10 and complete a timeline of important events to help you on the quiz tomorrow.

24  Journaling Time – 1 Great Paragraph!  Write Title, Author, Page numbers  Fiction – If you could trade places with the main character in your book would you? Name the main character and say why you would or would not.  Non-Fiction – What is one thing that you learned today? What page was it on? Why was it something useful to know? Explain how this could help you in the future.

25  Quick discussion –  Which one school subject would you study if you had to pick. Why?

SWBAT Take an open book quiz over chapters 9-10 and will show reading comprehension by scoring 2/3 or higher on this open book quiz!

27  Warm-Up and Discuss  Introduce Standard, Objective, and Agenda for the day.  Lesson:  Open book quiz on chapters 9-10  At the end of the quiz, students have to write one DOK 2 level question about this section.  Listen to chapter 10 audio  Choose 1 event from this section to illustrate.  Listen to audio version while following in the novel 184- 190  Pay attention to the rumors. Do you think they are true? Why or why not? How do you think they started? What could help people know exactly what is happening?

28  DOK 2-3 questions on the quiz, when connecting evidence of Miranda’s actions or words and the clues given to the reader.  Students will score 2/3 or higher on this open book quiz!

30  Rumors often start from a hint of truth.  What is one rumor that you have heard mention of so far in the book?  Do you think they are true? Why or why not?  How do you think they started?  What could help people to know exactly what is happening?

31  Achieve 3000  Email with at least three sentences  Try to get 80% or higher on the questions  Write a thoughtful answer with at least five complete sentences.  Answer the math question.  Read the stretch article and answer those questions.  Go to the Bonus article and complete those activities!
