2 Proper nouns name a particular person, place or thing. Capitalize all proper nouns.

3 5. Capitalize the first letter of particular places. Example: Juan went on a trip to A sia. He went to T okyo, J apan for his company.

4 Capitalize the first letter of streets, cities, states, countries, geographic features and geographic regions. Examples:  I live at 80 W oodcut L ane, W antagh, N ew Y ork.  My brother has visited A ustralia in the P acific Ocean. He snorkeled at the G reat B arrier R eef.

5 Capitalize the first letter of directions only when they are used to designate actual places – not when they point in a direction. Example: When we visited the S outhwest, we actually had to drive north. Place to go to Directions are not capitalized.
