Curriculum Vitae: Latin for “Course of Life” A marketing document at its core It’s a teaser to get someone to call you Keep it to one page Ensure no typos or mistakes Don’t count on spellcheck to catch everything Always have a second set of eyes List your accomplishments There are a myriad of templates on the internet No colors - Black only please Be mindful of format and sending – always pdf Honesty is the only policy

Cover letters Always customize the letter for each position and company Acknowledge the company, location and job by name I am very excited to apply to be Justin Bieber’s tweeter in Calabasas. Show your personality and writing skills Highlight the big picture of your experience and goals as they relate to this position and company Keep it straight forward and to the point

I have an awesome resume – now what? The magic interweb has a crazy amount of job boards Craigslist, Indeed, Career builder, Stack overflow, and so much more Use your High School and College Career Center Make sure you are actually qualified (not just in your head) It’s ALWAYS better to somehow get your resume to the actual people who are hiring LinkedIn is a powerful tool for finding people Does the job posting say who this reports to? Find them

Your Network The fastest way to get in the door is if you have an “In” Start with your family - who do your parents / siblings / cousins / uncles know?! Continue on to Friends and Neighbors - Who do your friends (See above) know?! Meet-Ups - good chance to meet people who like what you like (and maybe have jobs for people who like what you like)

Interviewing: 101
