4 Cervical Cancer Louisiana Overall incidence rate*: 8.6 (14 th ) Overall mortality rate: 2.9 (5 th ) African-American mortality: 4.4 (10 th ) National Overall incidence rate: 7.9 Overall mortality rate: 2.3 African-American mortality: 4.2 *Rates per 100,000

5 Eligible Population 100,864 women aged 40-64 in Louisiana, or 13.4%, meet the eligibility requirements 40% of Louisiana women who meet the demographic requirements are uninsured. This is the 8 th highest rate in the country In FY 2013 we served 11,085 women, which is approximately 11% of the eligible population

6 Early Detection Program Key Components High –quality breast and cervical cancer screening and diagnostic services for low-income, un and under insured women at no-cost. Patient navigation for all women with abnormal screening results. Fast-track BCC Medicaid Program for treatment.

7 Screening Mammograms Walk-in/no appointment needed Two places – St. Thomas Community Health Center Easy access – Interim Louisiana Hospital Breast Center Walk over to Breast Center for before or after any Interim Hospital and Clinic appointment.

8 Diagnostic Mammograms If you have a breast problem. – Abnormal screening mammogram – If you notice something is different with your breasts. Clinicians can refer women who need help. Patients seen quickly and helped through the entire diagnostic process.

9 Patient Navigation Patient navigation is a process by which an individual—a patient navigator—guides patients with an abnormal finding through and around barriers in the complex care system to help ensure timely diagnosis and treatment. Works within the organization and through external services to address barriers to health care.

10 Support for Treatment Louisiana BCC Medicaid Program National Breast and Cervical Cancer Treatment and Prevention Act of 2000. Fast-track application process-2 pages. Option 2 - Louisiana covers women screened through LBCHP or one of LBCHP’s providers: – Pre-cancerous or cancerous breast or cervical condition, – Up to age 64, – US and LA resident, and – No credible insurance coverage or Medicaid/Medicare. Medicaid separate from LBCHP – we are the link.

11 Women Screened in FY 2013 by Zip Code The map reflects residency of women that received screening services paid for with LBCHP funds. Screening services includes clinical breast exams, mammograms, and pelvic and pap tests. Total Number of Women Screened in FY 2013 = 11,085

13 Number of Women Screened and Cancer Diagnosed in New Orleans Over the Past 5 Years The graph reflects breast cancer screenings performed at St. Thomas Community Health Center and Interim LSU Hospital. Cancers include invasive breast cancer and ductal and lobular carcinoma in situ.
