PLTW Course Schedule Beginning PLTW Course Introduction to Engineering Design-A course that teaches problem-solving skills using a design development process. Models of product solutions are created, analyzed and communicated using solid modeling computer design software. In NYS, the course is called Design and Drawing for Production and follows the syllabus developed by the State Education Department. CAD CIMPOEIED DIG EDD

Introduction to Engineering Design Projects Introduction to Design –Evolution of Design Inventor Tutorials –2D Constraints, Basic 3D Skills, Advanced 3D Features Cube Project –Sketching and brainstorming (Orthographic, Oblique, Isometric, Perspective), 3D Assembly Constraints, Exploded Views, Working Drawings Reverse Engineering –Advanced 3D Features, Dimensioning Techniques, Sectional Drawing, Detailed Drawings, Auxiliary Views Desktop Organizer –Mass Properties, Culminating Project, Graphic Arts and Woods classes CAD CIMPOEIED DIG EDD

CAD CIMPOEIED DIG EDD Second PLTW Course Principles of Engineering- A course that helps students understand the field of engineering/engineering technology. Exploring various technology systems and manufacturing processes help students learn how engineers and technicians use math, science and technology in an engineering problem solving process to benefit people. The course also includes concerns about social and political consequences of technological change. PLTW Course Schedule

Principles of Engineering Projects Identify types of engineers and responsibilities –Project: Greatest Invention of the 20th century PowerPoint presentation Communication and Documentation –Project: Sketching and Perspective Drawings –Project: Graphing with Excel –Project: Career Research Presentation Design Process –Project: Inventor Research Presentation Engineering Systems –Mechanisms & Control Systems (Project: Marble Sorter) –Thermodynamics (Project: Convection Oven) Statics and Strength of Materials –Project: Balsa Bridge Test –MDSolids Centroids and Moments of Inertia CAD CIMPOEIED DIG EDD

PLTW Course Schedule Third Course in sequence Digital Electronics- A course in applied logic that encompasses the application of electronic circuits and devices. Computer simulation software is used to design and test digital circuitry prior to the actual construction of circuits and devices. CAD Architecture I-Computer aided drafting of residential construction and modeling of homes! (AutoCAD English) CAD Architecture II-Computer aided design, 3D modeling, and presentation techniques (Autodesk Revit) Other Courses being considered: Civil Engineering Architecture Biotechnical Engineering Aerospace Engineering CAD CIMPOEIED DIG EDD

PLTW Course Schedule Final Course in Sequence: Option 1 Computer Integrated Manufacturing- A course that applies principles of robotics and automation. The course builds on computer solid modeling skills developed in Introduction to Engineering Design, and Design and Drawing for Production. Students use CNC equipment to produce actual models of their three-dimensional designs. Fundamental concepts of robotics used in automated manufacturing, and design analysis are included. CAD CIMPOEIED DIG EDD

CAD CIMPOEIED DIG EDD Final Course in Sequence: Option 2 Engineering Design and Development- An engineering research course in which students work in teams to research, design and construct a solution to an open-ended engineering problem. Students apply principles developed in the four preceding courses and are guided by a community mentor. They must present progress reports, submit a final written report and defend their solutions to a panel of outside reviewers at the end of the school year. PLTW Course Schedule

PLTW College Credit Eligibility: Students earn 85% or higher in a PLTW course Students earn a 70% or higher on the college exam The tuition charge for each four quarter-credit course is $200 (an equivalent course taken at RIT would cost more than $2,000) RIT will send a grade report at the end of the quarter in which a student registers. Students who apply to colleges other than RIT may request, at no cost, that a transcript be sent to those schools. CAD CIMPOEIED DIG EDD
