4 Behavior Change Theory We conducted an academic literature review. Competition o Don’t overemphasize winning, may compromise self-esteem Incentives o Increases likelihood of initial participation o Not too valuable Feedback o Best for those below set goal o Make feedback positive 4

15 Impact Metrics Participating schools recycle 10% more than schools that don’t participate in Recycle-Bowl. Around 3% use the competition to start a recycling program.
