2  You will write a 5-10 minute speech  It can be on any topic you wish, but a social/political issue may be the best/easiest  Your speech will be graded on the written component and the spoken performance

4  Refers to the trustworthiness or credibility of the writer or speaker.  Do you sound knowledgeable about your subject?  Did you do sufficient research?  Did you practice your speech? Do you seem confident in speaking?

5  Refers to the internal consistency of the message--the clarity of the claim, the logic of its reasons, and the effectiveness of its supporting evidence.  Do you have logical evidence for your claims?  Does your argument make sense?

6  This is an appeal to the audience's sympathies and imagination. An appeal to pathos causes an audience not just to respond emotionally but to identify with the writer's point of view--to feel what the writer feels.  How do you try to connect to your audience?  How does the tone of your voice affect your audience?

7  Pick a topic – Form your viewpoint  Your speech needs: Attention Grabber – How can you draw your audience in? Thesis – What do you think the issue is? Evidence – What proof do you have to support your thesis? Solution – From your point of view, how can this problem be solved? Final Thought – What do you want your audience to take away from your speech?

9  Your written speech must have all the components and is due on turnitin.com on Sunday, March 29 th.  We will spend the week prior to the due date in the computer lab researching and writing your speech.  Your oral presentation will occur the two weeks after Spring Break.  You will be graded on your flow and overall presentation. Use you break time to practice. You may use 3x5 note cards, but you shouldn’t be reading directly off the card the whole time.
