19 Sport clubs = most popular youth associations on Lidingö. Many children start doing organised activities very early, but drop of as they become teenagers. Competition between clubs to attract 6-year-olds. Football is the most popular activity/sport for boys 13-15 and 16- 18 years old. Horse back riding is the most popular sport for girls 13-15 years, while “Friskis & Svettis” (gym and group training) is the most popular activity for girls 16-18 years old. The majority of youngsters in the survey consider themselves to have “good health”. Girls’ self-estimated health is lower than boys’, especially 18-year- old girls (34 of 100 %). Girls are also less physically active than boys. Inactive youngsters’ self-estimated health is lower than physically active youth = Individual and non-organised activities become more attractive as children become teenagers, especially among girls.

20 What can youth associations/sport clubs do in order to keep the teenagers active much longer? What can be done to attract more girls? Can traditional sports/sport clubs attract new teenagers? Is it possible to start doing traditional sports as a teenager? Spontaneaus activities vs. organised activities.
