LESSON PLAN PROJECT Amanda Luteran Jennifer Barkevich Katie Welch Monique Cunin

Lesson Title We are all part of a whole! Our lesson will help students understand the various parts that comprise a whole fraction up to 12/12.

3rd Grade Math We will be working with numbers and operations, specifically fractions. Our lesson will take 50 minutes, or one class period, to complete. We will implement a one teach- one drift style of teaching.

SC Curriculum Standard Standard 3-2: The student will demonstrate through the mathematical processes an understanding of the representation of whole numbers and fractional parts; the addition and subtraction of whole numbers; accurate, efficient, and generalizable methods of multiplying whole numbers; and the relationships among multiplication, division, and related basic facts. Indicator 3-2.5: Understand fractions as parts of a whole.

Classroom Layout Special Education Teacher Desk ADHD DD LD Door Table Rug Sink One models, the other leads and so on… The teachers take turns presenting the lesson.

Instructional Objectives The learning outcome for this lesson: The students will identify and create fraction sets up to 12/12 with 100% accuracy. We selected 12/12 because of the relevance to other items students encounter on a daily basis such as a carton of eggs, a dozen cookies, and 12 months in a year.

Materials, resources & technology Manipulatives – Fruit Loops and counters Construction paper circles Flash cards and folder Concrete items – books, pencils and students paired with a partner

Description of the Lesson Model for 10 minutes Use of concrete materials such as books and pencils Lead for 10 minutes Students will use Fruit Loops during a guided practice exercise Independent practice for 10 minutes Classwide peer tutoring using flash cards and counters Assessment for the remaining 15 minutes

Instructional Procedures Teacher modeling lesson using books and pencils

Instructional Procedures Presented by teacher during modeling Student response Lead/Guided practice activity

Assessments General assessment Modified assessment for the students with a learning disability and devlopmental delay Modified assessment for the students with ADHD

General Assessment

Modified Assessment For the students with: Learning disability Devlopmental delay Includes: Use of circle as a visual Use of manipulatives Bolded and color coordinated questions

Modified Assessment For the students with: ADHD Includes: Less questions More spacing between each question Use of a timer

Student Products Our formative assessment will serve as our student product since this is our first lesson on fractions.

Supplemental Support Classroom site maintained by teacher Contains math web site link www.sheppardsoftware.com/mathgames/fractions/fractionSet.htm Other supplemental fraction practice exercises Fraction cards go home with students Homework
