4. Core Services I & II: Status Core Services I –Allocations Process: Adapting to Alloc. RAT recommendations –POPS: Extracted from NCSA’s local accounting system and moving forward –New Users: Adapting to new POPS environment –Accounting System: New AMIE version Core Services II  UFC-DEV –Continued POPS improvements –Better user/allocation management in TGUP –Better process for creating new users –Better system for RPs to provide resource info (RDR) 4

Major Current Challenges Startup Review Process –Single Startups simpler for users, but RP requirements make managing the process more complex –All for requests with a 93% success rate WebSphere Delays –Impacts other efforts, e.g., portal customization, self- creation of user portal logins. TRAC process/policy changes –Implementation still keeping up 5

PY5 Challenges Absorbing effort supported by Core Services award into GIG budget –POPS operations and updates (NCSA) –Accounting infrastructure support (SDSC, NCSA) –Allocations process coordination (TACC, NCSA) ~6 FTEs plus expenses for 2 TRAC meetings –Affected sites are reducing the FTE counts –December 2009 and March 2010 meetings 6

Transition to XD Process Continuity Issues –Decommissioning RP/HPCOPS resources on 3/31/2010 Lots of resources ending, lots of transfers, etc. Allocations starting on or after 4/1/09 (submitting proposals through 1/15/09!) will have to consider transition. –Unlikely XD can spin up allocations process on April 1, 2010, even assuming XD picks up Allocations process “as is” TeraGrid will have to continue day-to-day operations OR Operational planning will have to take place prior to April 1 Incoming Startups, existing allocations, new user processes –June 2010 TRAC meeting Request submission would be March 15-April 15, 2010 Hotel logistics would need to start early 2010 7

Transition to XD (2) Infrastructure Issues –POPS: hosted at NCSA Dependent on NCSA Sybase Otherwise moveable –Security/Authentication: hosted at NCSA Dependent on NCSA MyProxy, Kerberos, CA, user vetting apps New XD will need comparable security infrastructure and transition users –TGCDB/AMIE: hosted at SDSC (failover at PSC) All moveable, potentially by moving actual hardware. –TGUP/Web: hosted at 3 rd party site, 3-year contract terms Can be handed off IU KB content would have to be exported 8
