3  Researched the feasibility of creating a sobriety checkpoint program in Anchorage, Alaska  Researched the statistics and costs of driving under the influence in Anchorage ◦ 5,888 DUIs in 2008 ◦ 22 fatal car accidents ◦ $130 billion dollars a year spent on alcohol related crashes

4  Conducted secondary research on the effectiveness of sobriety checkpoints  Researched driving records through Alaska Division for Motor Vehicles  Distributed and studied a questionaire regarding the problem of alcohol in Anchorage

5  Will the State of Alaska be able to fund this program?  Will this program decrease DUI’s?  Will this program decrease alcohol related accidents?

6 Affordability Each checkpoint would save up to $50,000 a year. For every dollar invested, six to 23 dollars is proven to be saved.

7  The figure above shows that Alaskans support having a sobriety checkpoint program. When surveyed, 76% of respondents said that they would vote in favor for a sobriety checkpoint program in Anchorage, Alaska.
