3 History 1886 Antiseptic surgical dressings were first produced by the company. 1887 The company is incorporated as Johnson & Johnson. 1888 J&J manufactures the first commercial first aid kits. 1894 Maternity kits are introduced and JOHNSON'S® Baby Powder goes on the market.

4 History 1931 Expansion continues into Australia. 1932 Robert Wood Johnson II, aka The General, takes over leadership of the company from his uncle. 1910 James Wood Johnson takes over as head leadership of the company. 1919 First international operating company opens in Canada. 1924 J&J opens its first overseas operating company in the United Kingdom. 1930 The company expands to South Africa and Mexico.

5 History 1937 J&J branches into South America. 1943 The General writes the company’s credo. 1944 The company goes public on the New York Stock Exchange. 1957 J&J opens its first operating company in India. 1959 The company acquires McNeil Laboratories (US) and Cilag Chemie (Europe).
