AGENDA 2-2-15  Do Now  HW Check  Video on Balancing  Review  White board practice  Group rotation stations  Books / odds on last night HW

TODAY IS FEBRUARY 4, 2015 Topic: Chemical Reactions Lesson Objectives: SWBAT  2.2.2 Analyze evidence of chemical change 2.2.3 Analyze the law of conservation of matter and how it applies to various types of chemical equations Essential Question: 2.2 Analyze chemical reactions in terms of quantities, product formation, and energy.

Balancing Chemical Reactions with Mr. Causey (p.22)  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nu- wXCY0nnI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nu- wXCY0nnI  Copy the practice problems at the end 1

Balancing reactions (p17) Steps:  1. Write element list underneath arrow.  2. Take atom inventory on each side of arrow  3. Use multipliers (coefficients) to balance elements.  Balance H second to last and O last. If you struggle to balance and are left with ONLY O, double all your coefficients.

Balancing reactions pg 22 1. ____Fe+ ____ O 2 →_____Fe 3 O 4 1. _____CaCO 3 → _____ CaO + _____ CO 2

White Board Practice 1. ____KI+ ____Cl 2 → _____KCl + ____I 2 1. ____Pb(NO 3 ) 2 + ____HCl → ____PbCl 2 + ____HNO 3 1. ____BaO 2 → ____ BaO + ____O 2

Rotation Stations Groups of 4-5 Start at a station and complete ONE step of writing and balancing the reaction as a group When you rotate you will check the previous steps, fix anything that is wrong and complete the next step. The final station you land on will you YOUR groups and will be graded on ACCURACY.

Books and Evens on pg 20  Sign for your textbook  The text book you sign for (the actual number) is the one you are responsible for returning at the end of the semester  $68.72 is cost  HW will be in the book MOST nights from here on out  Solutions Manual on Website / Google drive
