1 Certification For Child and Youth Care Counsellors Employed in the Field of Child and Youth Care The program requirements

2 Certification There are two processes to becoming a Certified Child and Youth Care Counsellor: 1.Certification For Members with Child and Youth Care Degree or Diploma. The process is explained in red font. 2. Certification for members who do not have a Child and Youth Care Diploma or Degree. The process is explained in white font.

3 Certification For Members with Child and Youth Care Degree or Diploma 1. This applies to Members who have a Child and Youth Care Diploma or Degree from an accredited college and university Members with a letter of diploma equivalency from Mount Royal University are also accepted as having a diploma in Child and Youth Care. 2. Members with Child and Youth Care degree or diploma from an accredited university or college are exempt from the written and oral exams. 3. The Registration for Certification Form must be signed by a supervisor and agency administrator confirming that you have worked at least 2080 hours at their agency and meet the criteria to be recognized as a Certified Child and Youth Care Counsellor

4 Certification For Members with Child and Youth Care Degree or Diploma 4. Required documents to be mailed, faxed or emailed to the office: a) Completed Membership Form for the Child and Youth Care Association of Alberta. Fee $100.Form b) Signed Registration for Certification Form. Fee $90.Form c) Copy of degree, diploma or letter. 5 After your credentials have been confirmed there will be a certification fee of $70. 6. Fees can be paid by PayPal available on the website or by cheque made payable to CYCAA

5 Certification for Members Who do not have a Child and Youth Care degree or diploma The following process must be undertaken: a) Complete a Membership Form for the Child and Youth Care Association of Alberta. Fee $100.Form b) Members are advised to complete the modules on Level 1 and 2 c) The Registration for Certification Form must be signed by a supervisor and agency administrator confirming that you have worked at least 2080 hours at their agency and meet the criteria to be recognized as a Certified Child and Youth Care Counsellor d) Signed Registration for Certification Form. Fee $90.Form e) The Certification Manual, Supervisor Manual and Companion are available in the module 2-1 of the Level 2 modules. The Manual will instruct you to choose four focus areas. From section A choose two focus areas B and C choose one focus area each. The online modules will guide your studies.

6 Certification for Members Who do not have a Child and Youth Care degree or diploma f) The Intermediate Exam is a written exam. Complete the Registration for Intermediate Certification Form Fee $135Form g) The Full Certification Exam is an oral exam. Complete the Registration for Full Certification Form Fee $135Form h)After successfully completing the exam process there will be a $70 certification fee. i)For both exams members are expected to reflect on their own practice and give examples of how they utilize the theories to help the clients and their families.

7 What if: If a member is not successful in passing the first time: a) Written exam re write fee is $35 b) Oral re-take is $135.
