11 doc.: IEEE 802.15-06-0046 Submission Jan 2006 Stefan Drude, PhilipsSlide 11 Process from ideas to a new TG project New ideas are presented in the 15WNG Further discussions on the intentions and SG criteria by email reflector, phone conference and WNG meetings.  Check that the criteria for starting a SG are fulfilled. If not the work item can be discarded or kept for further investigations / discussions. Create a motion to the 802.15 WG to start a SG to be approved by a straw poll. All attendees have voting rights. The WG to approve the SG motion. The SG charter is to produce the PAR and 5C documents for approval by the WG and ExCom.

12 doc.: IEEE 802.15-06-0046 Submission Jan 2006 Stefan Drude, PhilipsSlide 12 Criteria for starting a Study Group Show that there is enough interest for a new SG –Recommendation: some10 persons from at least 4 companies –Candidates for Chair and secretary Global definition of the intended project –Name –Features and Functions (what the should be supported) –Scope (what market, usage and technology) Check that there are no blocking issues from the SG charter –Show Reasons for a Broad Market Potential (MRD) –Identify Unique / Discriminating features (FRD) –Technical feasibility within the timeframe of the project –Indicate other requirements like Security, Regulatory, co-existence, No blocking patents, etc. that may apply –Not same standards work is done by an other organization
