4 THE CHALLENGE In 2007 The Jim Joseph Foundation asked BJE: Builders of Jewish Education, (BJE) to develop a grant proposal targeting high school middle income affordability The first task was to define Middle Income Affordability - families in need of financial assistance to send kids to a Jewish high school but who previously had not been considered for financial aid At that time, most LA school’s would not consider families earning over $150,000 for Financial Aid In defining Jewish middle income it was critical to be able to substantiate the parameters for the grant
