1 Re-Write each sentence in the Active (voice) tense. 1. Why was the road crossed by the chicken? 2.The metropolis has been scorched by the dragon’s fiery breath. 3. A new system of drug control laws was set up. 4. The team was telephoned by the captain.

3 Root Words A word root forms the basic part of a word a gives the word its primary meaning. Examples: see 30-15-10 list

4 Practice with Roots Using your 30-15-10 list define each root and give an example. -bas -cap, capt -Ver -log -graph

5 Prefix A prefix is a word part that is added to the beginning of a base word. A prefix changes the meaning of a word. Examples: Extra + Ordinary = Extraordinary Hyper + Active = Hyperactive

6 Practice with Prefixes Define each of the terms below using your prefix list. 1.Interplanetary 2.Circumference 3.Mistake 4.Monotone 5.Nonsense

7 Suffix A suffix is a word part that is added to the end of a base word. A suffix changes the meaning of a word Example: Use + able = usable Compete + er = competitor

8 Practice with Suffixes Define each term using your suffix list. 1.Aggressiveness 2.Sportsmanship 3.Meaningless 4.Rationalism
