Main DECT market in Europe is in residential cordless About 16.5 million DECT phones in 99’ In some European countries DECT residential phones exceed the 70% of the cordless market share Business & corporate applications are also succeed More than 700 thousand terminals in 99’ The 100% of cordless PABX market is based on DECT DECT WLL in Eastern Europe Significant DECT WLL deployments in Eastern Europe (Poland, Turkey, Hungary) DECT/GSM dual applications DECT/GSM dual applications have been already launched in UK and other countries are intending to follow on DECT in Europe (1/3) DECT around DECT around the World the World Regulation Frequency Issues Frequency Issues Overview

DECT in Europe (2/3) 1989: CEPT Rec. T/R 22-02 assigned 1880-1900 MHz band for DECT standard 1991: EC Directive 287/91 makes the band mandatory for DECT 1991: EC Directive 288/91 push development of DECT applications (public & private) 1994: Unlicensed regime for private applications recommended by CEPT. Public licensing subject to national regulations 1998: Some DECT WLL applications using 1900-1920 Mhz band also (Turkey) 1999: 3.5 GHz WLL band opens opportunities for DECT also (ETSI TM4 activities) 1999: ITU approved DECT as IMT-2000 radio technology, opening opportunities for Indoor TDD 3G applications 1989: CEPT Rec. 6 Significant DECT WLL market in Latin America 500 thousand WLL lines contracted in two years In 85% of Latin American countries DECT is licensing for Public FWA applications as a primary basis Private applications as secondary basis in most countries More than 700 thousand terminals in 99’ Residential DECT cordless market expected to grow over 100% in following two years over 100% in following two years DECT WLL in 3.5 GHz First worldwide deployments of DECT WLL in 3.5 GHz band made in Latin America (Argentina, El Salvador) PWT in UPCS In North America the DECT based PWT in UPCS band WDCT variant forISM 2,4 GHz is succeeding, while WDCT variant for ISM 2,4 GHz band is also emerging as a competitive solution DECT in America (1/3) DECT around DECT around the World the World Regulation Frequency Issues Frequency Issues Overview

DECT in America (2/3) 1996: CITEL PCC-III Res. 43/96 resolves the possible use of 1850-1990 MHz band to provide PCS & FWA applications 1997: CITEL PCC-III Experts Group dedicated to analyze the for coexistence between DECT and PCS systems. First Report (PCCIII-935/97) shows the initial feasibility. 1997: CITEL PCC-III Rec.32/97 allow the 1910-1930 MHz band to be used for FWA or Private applications in TDD mode, taken care of considerations made in Expert Group report 1998: A complimentary Report from CITEL (PCCIII-1077/98), definitively conclude the coexistence feasibility. Almost all Latin American countries allocated the 1910-1930 MHz for FWA systems as primary basis. Private for secondary use. 1999: New opportunities for DECT WLL in 3.5 GHz band. First worldwide deployments in that band made in Argentina and El Salvador 1996: CITEL PCC-III Res. 43/96 resolves the possible use of 1850-1990 MHz band to provide PCS & FWA applications 1997: CITEL PCC-III Experts Group dedicated to analyze the for coexistence between DECT and PCS systems. 9 DECT around DECT around the World the World Regulation Frequency Issues Frequency Issues Overview DECT in Africa (1/2) Main opportunities for DECT systems are based on Fixed Wireless Applications. worldwide largest DECT WLL operative networks The two worldwide largest DECT WLL operative networks are located in Africa (South Africa & Egypt) Africa accounts for about 200 thousand WLL lines already in commercial use Africa is a key FWA market where DECT is the best positioned technology WLL DECT market share in Africa is about 70% in contract lines, and more than 85% in installed lines Private applications (Residential & Business) also exist, there is no a regulatory global policy however there is no a regulatory global policy.

DECT around DECT around the World the World Regulation Frequency Issues Frequency Issues Overview DECT in Africa (2/2) Existing private applications are not included here.

DECT around DECT around the World the World Regulation Frequency Issues Frequency Issues Overview DECT in Asia - Pacific (1/2) Great opportunities for DECT systems based on Fixed Wireless Applications. Asia includes two of most FWA potential countries in the world (China & India) DECT Private applications compete with the well positioned PHS technology however it is fast growing More than 500 thousand terminals in 99’ and expected growths over 100% in next years DECT Forum and PHS MoU reached agreement for technology coexistence Public and Private technology coexistence in shared spectrum bands (China, Thailand) Middle East is the main “pending subject” for DECT
