5 BUILDING STRONG ® “Armistice”  Essentially, a truce  Signed just after the “Great War” World War I

6 BUILDING STRONG ® Why November 11? “Armistice Day” went into effect on the 11 th Hour of the 11 th Day of the 11 th Month

7 BUILDING STRONG ® World War II and the Korean War  WWII had required the greatest mobilization of soldiers, sailors, Marines, and airmen in the Nation’s history  By 1954, America had also fought in Korea

8 BUILDING STRONG ® From “Armistice” to “Veterans” President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed into law that November 11 would always be commemorated as a day to honor American Veterans of ALL wars

9 BUILDING STRONG ® Veterans Day 2011 A day to celebrate and honor America’s Veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.
