1 Using the UB Course Evaluation System A Guide for Faculty The UB Course Evaluation System is powered by

2 UB Course Evaluation System: Faculty The Faculty Senate Course Evaluation Committee has defined 16 core questions to be included on all course evaluations. 3 UB Course Evaluation System: Faculty Each academic unit can add up to 10 additional qualitative and quantitative custom questions per course. Course Liaisons have been identified in each decanal area to coordinate the addition of custom questions. Course Evaluation Items

4 UB Course Evaluation System: Faculty As an instructor, you will be prompted with an email from Campus Labs at least one week before evaluations are open. From: notification@ce.mail.campuslabs.com To: Smith, Jane Subject: Course Evaluations Open Soon Please be sure to set email filters to allow emails from this address. Email Notification

5 UB Course Evaluation System: Faculty The email will include a link to the system where you can: -Enter 3 additional questions; -Check course rosters; and, during the administration, -Check response rates. Students will receive an email from Campus Labs on the day that evaluations open. Email Notification

6 UB Course Evaluation System: Faculty An announcement will also be posted on MyUB with a link to the course evaluation site. MyUB Announcement Course Evaluations will open soon. Login to check your rosters and monitor response rates in real time. When the evaluation is open, students will see an announcement on MyUB with a link to the course evaluation site. You can also post a link in UBlearns course sites and remind students on the course syllabus schedules.

7 UB Course Evaluation System: Faculty Logging In Course Evaluation uses the same login as other UB central services. Enter your UBITName and Password and click Log in. You will be directed to the course evaluation landing page.

8 UB Course Evaluation System: Faculty You can select the current term (A) to see open evaluations. You can add up to 3 custom questions of your own for each course taught by clicking on Add Custom Questions (B). You can check course rosters for correctness (C) and send any changes to your course evaluation liaison. Course Evaluation Landing Page

9 UB Course Evaluation System: Faculty Adding Custom Questions Click on the arrow next to New to see the options for adding custom items.

10 UB Course Evaluation System: Faculty When a Single Select item is chosen, a dialog box opens that allows you to enter the question text and the list of answers. Click Ok when done editing the question. Adding Custom Questions

12 UB Course Evaluation System: Faculty When your items are complete, click Done Editing to save them to the evaluation for the course. Adding Custom Questions

13 UB Course Evaluation System: Faculty Once the evaluation administration begins, you can monitor response rates in real time. Students are most likely to respond when faculty discuss the importance of course evaluations in class. Monitoring Response Rates

14 UB Course Evaluation System: Faculty Evaluations can be completed on any mobile device. Instructors may provide time in class for students to complete evaluations on smart phones, tablets and laptops. This will have a big impact on response rates. Mobile-Responsive Technology

15 UB Course Evaluation System: Faculty Responses are COMPLETELY anonymous! Instructors or administrators cannot see the identity of respondents, nor can they link responses to a specific student. Anonymity of Course Evaluations

16 UB Course Evaluation System: Faculty Summary reports for each course evaluated are sent in PDF format from the system. These reports include summaries of the quantitative items and include all comments entered for the open- ended items. Chairs can log into the system to see reports for all faculty members in a department. Viewing Summary Reports

The aggregated course-level data can help you: -Perfect instructional strategies; -Identify areas where students might need additional supports; -Review the relevance of course content; -Improve the overall course; and, thus, -Improve the instructional environment and student learning at UB.
