4 Madam Walker’s Significant Role €She was a slave that independently created a manufacturing business. €She is today known as the Americas First Self-made female millionaire. Not only was she the first female but the first African American female. "I am a woman who came from the cotton fields of the South. From there I was promoted to the washtub. From there I was promoted to the cook kitchen. And from there I promoted myself into the business of manufacturing hair goods and preparations....I have built my own factory on my own ground." 5 Martin Luther’s Significant role  He lead the United States to believe that we are all equally created as one.  He is today known all around and cherished greatly by most people. “…I say to you today, my friends, that in spite of the difficulties and frustrations of the moment, I still have a dream. 6 -Martin’s Activities in Life- Joined a Boycott with Rosa Parks He had a book published named, Stride Toward Freedom He lead 125,000 people on a Freedom Walk in Detroit He announced his famous I Have a Dream speech. He spoke of the start of the, Poor People's Campaign focusing on freedom for all races. Fact: He met president Kennedy

7 -Madam’s Activities in Life- In 1906 she started a cosmetics business. She also contributed to YMCA, NAACP, the Tuskegee Institute and Bethune- Cookman College. Fact: She was 17 when she had her only Child

11 Madam CJ’s Influences We believe that Madam CJ Walker inspired herself. We also believe that her inspiration might have been because of her daughter A'Lelia Walker Fact: She was 14 When she married

12 Characteristics Martin Luther King Jr and Madam CJ Walker both hold the same type of characteristics in the category of future thinking, beliefs, and opinions towards African American Civil Rights. Both wanted all slaves to be free, and for all races to get along.

13 Philosophy on civil rights Martin’s outlook on the civil rights were focused on freedom of all races as well as Madam CJ Walkers. Fact: Madams parents were both slaves

15 MLK’s dream…fulfilled? “I believe that Martins dream mostly became true, for example quoted in the famous speech “I Have a Dream”, “…one day right there in Alabama little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers…” I am an example of White and Black joining together, both my parents we’re able to join hand in hand without being insulted or put down. But there are others out there that have not come to realize that we are all created equally, which means that his dream has not completely but mostly come true.” –Shilouh Frazer
