ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS I. Solid Phase Extraction mechanised L/L extraction – ISOLUTE HM-N

ISOLUTE HM-N Liquid/Liquid Extraction Columns ISOLUTE HM-N columns: v Standard polypropylene tubes packed with ISOLUTE HM-N material (previously available in bulk only). v To aid flow under gravity, the normal top frit (hydrophobic) is replaced by a mesh retaining ring (allows sample to flow easily under gravity)

How does it Work? v Modified form of diatomaceous earth. v High surface area. v Aqueous sample absorbed by the hydrophillic surface, leaving the analytes on the surface. v Non water miscible solvent is applied and liquid-liquid extraction occurs. Analytes are eluted with the organic solvent.

AdvantagesAdvantages v High surface area - very efficient extraction. v No emulsion formation. v Traditionally performed under gravity - less labour intensive than traditional liquid-liquid. v Can be automated.

ConfigurationsConfigurations DescriptionPart # ISOLUTE HM-N (0.3 ml sample) 800-0040-BM ISOLUTE HM-N (1.0 ml sample)800-0100-CM ISOLUTE HM-N (3.0 ml sample)800-0220-DM ISOLUTE HM-N (5.0 ml sample)800-0350-EM ISOLUTE HM-N (10.0 ml sample) 800-0700-FM ISOLUTE HM-N (20.0 ml sample) 800-1300-FM

How to Use ISOLUTE HM-N? Step 1 Apply sample Step 2 Wait for 3-5 min Step 3 Add organic solvent Collect extract Sample retention area (75%) SAMPLE SHOULD NOT COME OUT OF COLUMN!!
