2  Greatest drug problem 1.Oldest drug. 2. According to the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse, almost 80% of high school students have tried alcohol. 3.Alcoholism is a disease. Like any disease, it needs to be treated.

3   Ethanol- the type of alcohol that is used in beverages  Fermentation- is the chemical action of yeast and sugar  Distillation- Distillation is a commonly used method for purifying liquids and separating mixtures of liquids into their individual components.  Proof- An alcohol-water mixture or a beverage containing a standard amount of alcohol, the U.S. standard being 100 proof, or 50 percent, of ethyl alcohol by volume at 60°F  Brewing - the process of producing beer from barley. What is alcohol?

5 EFFECTS ON THE BODY 1-2 drinks- blurred vision, depth perception is lost. ¾ of a second for us to react. 1.5 seconds for impaired 3-4 drinks- slurred speech. Legally Intoxicated. 5-6 drinks- Alcohol has no taste and it’s like water. You have lost count. No memory. 7-8 drinks- Loss of consciousness. Vomitting, headaches. 10 + drinks – Life threatening. Alcohol poisoning high.

6   Depressant - Depressants are substances which slow down the normal function of the central nervous system.  Inhibitions -a feeling that makes one self-conscious and unable to act in a relaxed and natural way  Reflexes -is an involuntary (say: in-VAHL-un-ter-ee), or automatic, action that your body does in response to something  Temperature -the regulation of heat and cooling.  Fluids- Depending on the type of alcohol beer, wine or vodka. Recovery - process of learning to live an alcohol-free life. Sobriety -living without alcohol. Detoxification- the process in which the body adjusts to functioning without alcohol
