2 Melatonin is produced in the pineal part of the brain. Helps maintain other hormones. Keeps our body’s internal clock on schedule. Is a critical part in when we fall asleep and when we wake up. Where is Melatonin produced and what does it do?

3 The body produces more Melatonin in the dark and less in the light. Jetlag, night shifts, and bad vision, and Insomnia can be factors in loss of Melatonin. Insomnia is one of the worlds largest sleep problems. Insomnia is when a person’s Melatonin levels are off rhythm and the body can’t determine when its supposed to wake up, resulting in loss of sleep, a hard time falling or staying asleep, and difficulty staying awake. DISTURBANCES

4 RESULTS OF LOST MELATONIN OR HOW MELATONIN COULD BE LOST Menstrual cycle being late or early Insomnia Menopause-Women often have trouble with keeping up Melatonin levels. Benzodiazepine withdrawal-Tapering off Benzodiazepine makes Melatonin produce less. Breast Cancer-Women with breast cancer have more of a chance of losing Melatonin than women who don’t. Prostate Cancer-9 out of 14 men are more likely to survive with higher Melatonin levels. Having ADHD or ADD-Studies show that people who had ADD or ADHD are more likely to suffer from lack of Melatonin.

5 GLAND AND CHEMICALS Melatonin is made in the pineal gland. Melatonin is known chemically as Methoxytryptamine. Melatonin is also negative.
