2 Health Communications Internship Program (HCIP) with NCI Overview Plan, develop, and promote cancer education programs and materials (including Web-based) for the public, cancer patients, or health professionals Gain experience in pre-testing and evaluating cancer prevention and treatment messages, publications, materials, and programs that reach the American public Participate in professional meetings and training seminars

3 Health Communications Intern Activities Re-formatting and creating documents (with pictures, graphs & tables) for website to meet Section 508 requirements using Microsoft Word and Adobe Professional 9 Developed proposal for Newsletter for inter- steering committee communications Initiated collaborations with Office of Communications and Education for design/production of Newsletter

4 Health Communications Intern Activities Created and Designed “Tricks of the Trade: Using Marketing Techniques to Promote Behavior Change” – a marketing workshop Collaborations with Society for Prevention Research Create and Develop Health Branding Workshop Design Outreach Campaigns Developing & designing websites Write proposal and present to senior staff Develop briefing materials

5 Health Communications Intern Activities Event planning for interest groups Coordinate and conduct analysis of toll-free teleconference offerings and listenership to meet the needs of the cancer advocacy communities. Develop content in lay language to promote Understanding NCI Series offerings. Draft and develop print media to convey offices’ activities and services.

6 HCIP Eligibility – US Citizen or US permanent resident (Alien Registration number is required for US permanent residents). – Currently enrolled in, or a recent graduate of, graduate school. If a recent graduate, graduate degree must have been awarded no more than one year prior to application deadline. – Undergraduate GPA of 2.75 (minimum) for applicants who have not yet received a Master's degree. – Some science background and experience and/or education in any of the following areas: Public Health, Epidemiology, Public Relations, Health Education, Communications, Science Writing, Statistics, Social Marketing, Journalism

7 HCIP Application (available in July 2011) – A current resume – Up to three work samples. PDF copies preferred.
