1 Homework- 4B The Bouncing Baboons Weeks 5 & 6- Term 2 - 2014 Batchelor.luke.l@edumail.vic.gov.au Your homework is due back on Friday 30 th May Spelling Don’t forget to practise your spelling words 4 times each week (Mon-Thurs) Some ideas are: Write your word, then write your word in a code (e.g. a=1, b=2) Write your word correctly then jumble the letters up Spelling pyramid (add a letter each level of the pyramid a app appl apple Spelling Tables Number patterns: Choose a 3 digit number, then roll a dice to choose how much you count on or back by E.g. 237 (count by 4) 237,241,245,249 Do this for 8 different numbers, remembering to write the number you are counting by for the teacher. Mapping: Draw a map of an island with some hidden treasure. Write accurate directions for your teacher to get from your starting place to the treasure! Reading Record Don’t forget to record your reading in your diary! Write the title of the book in each day, even if you just read a page, record the page number/s that you read or the amount of time that you read for. Then get mum or dad to sign your diary at least once a week. Remember your diaries are due EVERY Friday! Reminder: Record anything that you read. If you read an article in mums magazine or dads newspaper, write it in your diary. Maths Reading Record Spelling Focus on these skills while completing your homework Organisation: Have you set aside time to complete your homework so it is handed in on time? Presentation: Have you ruled a margin on each page? Handwriting: Have you set your work out neatly so that others can read it? Reading practice: Have you read and recorded your reading each day? Spelling practice: Have you practised your spelling? Persistence Have you given each task a red hot go? Homework Checklist Reading Record At the moment we are all practising our handwriting in the endeavour to work towards pen licences, please find and write in your neatest handwriting, the first two verses of the Australian National Anthem. Please write the following words underneath your writing and their meaning. (you may need a dictionary to help you) rejoice: girt: boundless: advance (advance Australia fair) radiant toil renowned The rest of your English homework will be the writing of the information about the Australian and Aboriginal flag in the Inquiry section. English Inquiry! To help us to learn a little more about Australian history, and our own country, this fortnight you are being asked to do a little research : 1.Draw the Australian flag in your Homework book. Colour the flag in the correct colours (in pencil please). Label the parts of the flag (e.g. the stars) Write about the significance of the colours and the items on the flag in your own words. 2. Draw the Aboriginal flag in your homework book. Colour the flag in the correct colours (in pencil please) Label the parts of the flag Write about the significance of the colours and the items on the flag in your own words Make sure you are a good learner….don’t stay stuck! If you’re not sure of anything, please ask! Don’t leave it until the last minute!!
