3 Relocation Advisory Service  Scottish Government set up Relocation Advisory Service in February 2004  We are here to give advice on visas to individuals (and Scottish companies)  Based in Glasgow with 8 staff including an immigration specialist (Jo-anne McDonnell) and business team. What level of English must Mahi show? 2. What does she need to prove her English Language ability? 3. What if her college was a HEI?

11 Case Study 3  Hussan is from Sudan. He has been in the UK for the past five years as a Work Permit holder.  He now wants to apply to settle in the UK 1. What will Hussan need to apply? 2. What if he was a Tier 2 (General) visa holder?

12 Case Study 4 Hussan’s colleague, Samir, tells Hussan that he applied for settlement last year and did not need to prove his Language and Life in the UK as he is a refugee. Samir wants to apply for British Citizenship 1. Does Samir need to prove his language and life in the UK? 2. If so, how can he do this?

13 Case Study 5 Siranda, an Albanian national has recently married her British husband She came to the UK as a fiancée and now wishes to make an application as a spouse The English language test she took to get the fiancée visa has been removed from the UKBA’s list of acceptable tests 1. What should Siranda do? 2. What level does she need to show as a spouse? 3. When Siranda wants to apply for settlement what level of English will she need to show?
