1 Human Resources Health, Safety & Environment U of R WCB lost time and medical aid 2012 to 2014 YTD – 2 nd Quarter (faculty and students excluded) Human Resources Health, Safety & Environment Comment/Explanation: Progress has been made in decreasing lost time claims. Medical aid claims have increased this quarter due to 4 claims filed for hearing loss. Definitions: A “lost time claim” is a workplace injury that is significant enough to make the worker lose time at work beyond the initial day of injury. A “medical aid claim” is a workplace injury where the worker sees a medical practitioner but does not lose time at work.

Data has been amended to reflect the reduction of 337 lost days in 2013.

6 Human Resources Health, Safety & Environment U of R Reported Incident by Injury Type Reported Data for 2012 to 2014 YTD 2 nd Quarter Human Resources Health, Safety & Environment Comment/Explanation: MSIs or musculoskeletal injuries continue to show a decline for Q1 and Q2 due to focused safety leadership and the implementation of the Safe Moving and Repositioning Techniques (SMART) training program in Custodial Services.

7 Human Resources Health, Safety & Environment U of R Near Miss Reporting Reported Data for 2012 to 2014 YTD 2 nd Quarter Human Resources Health, Safety & Environment Comment/Explanation: Near miss reporting is a positive indicator of an emerging culture of safety. Reporting of near miss situations allows for early intervention and the prevention of injury and property damage.
