KERALA o Kerala has a higher literacy rate when (90.9%, 2001) compared to Orissa(63.61%, 2001). o The female literacy rate in Kerala is much higher than any other states in India o Higher literacy rate gives higher HDI value to this small state of India o Education promoted transmission from a highly conservative, hierarchical and cast ridden society of Kerala o Increase in appreciation of feminine values.

Orissa o Not much importance is given to female education o People are easily manipulated by politicians and become preys of communal violence o Female literacy rate is only 50.97(2001) o Low rate of female literacy could be the cause of increase in problems such as -High rate of infant mortality -Increase in maternal mortality -Malnutrition -Low life expectancy
