Learning Activity Management System –Developed in Australia at Macquarie University by Prof James Dalziel Limitations of monolothic VLEs –Transmission model –Content v Process view of education –Vendors confident sector not looking for changes –Showcased in February 2003 Trialled (with DfES support) in May 2003 –JISC project began September 2004 –LAMS became OpenSource Feb 2005

3. Why use LAMS? Focus on pedagogy, not technology Easy to develop sequences –Modification for re-use –Develop “bank” of sequences –Encourage sharing of expertise as well as content Runs as a web application Flexibility for the teacher –short chunks through to longer sequences Variety of tools –Collaboration –Monitoring –Testing –Survey
