OBJECTIVE: Determine how to Balance pH Warmup: If the pH is too high (too basic) what could you add to balance or neutralize the pH?? What if the pH is too low (too acidic)?

2 HOMEWORK: (Due Thursday)
Bring in a liquid or a substance that can be dissolved in water for us to test the pH. Predict the pH for your substance and explain.

3 Vocabulary pH: potential of hydrogen
Copy the definitions below into your vocabulary section. (*Purple part goes in 3rd box) pH: potential of hydrogen Acids: A substance that contains many hydrogen ions, a pH lower than 7.0. Bases: A substance that contains many hydroxyl groups, has a pH higher than 7.0 Hydroxyl Groups: An oxygen atom combined with a hydrogen atom, also called hydroxide ions pH Indicators: Indicates the pH of a substance by turning a different color for each pH. Examples: litmus paper, cabbage juice, electronic test meters. GO ON
